I'm a bit confused with all the churches in Paisley?  Was the Methodist Church the same as the High Church? I have a copy of the Proclamations for William/Mary's marriage (in the High Church) - so did they then marry somewhere else?????

I've come across a couple of the Kerr's being married (twice!) but the dates are within a couple of days.

Whilst I'm on the subject of churches..........what was the Burgh, Low & Middle Churches........are these totally separate churches for Paisley?

With regard to George Kerr of 46 High Street.......I'm not sure!.

William (jnr) had siblings Elisabeth McLennan Kerr;  Grace Kerr;  Mary Kerr; Janet (Jess) Kerr, Ann Kerr; James Russell Kerr; Daniel Kerr; Robert Kerr & Allan Kerr.  The last two boys were from William(snr) marriage to widow Margaret Stewart (nee Shaw).

Also on the birth of Mary Kerr (William/Mary Provan's child) it states that William's occupation was a Upholsterer (journeyman)..........!

Thanks once again for everyone's help with this family!!.

Regards

Hi Webby

Just picking up on a couple of points, hopefully others will respond on the issues. You can sometimes see a number of entries relating to the marriage for a couple. These will probably be the banns being read, in different parishes sometimes if the bride and groom resided in different parishes, apart from the actual marriage date. You should be able to establish this from the dates.

The term 'journeyman' in today's world would be like self employed I believe. They had learnt their trade and worked for themselves. As such the term could be used after many professions/trades eg. tailor journeyman, mason journeyman etc.

Regards.

Hi Monica

Have come to the conclusion that this couple may have had the children christened outside of the established church!.

I've emailed the NAS regarding a baptisimal register of the George Street United Presbyterian Church (later Free Church) 1835-1877 that I came across (thanks to Justin for pointing me in the direction of  the NAS).

Hopefully I may find this illusive family........

Thanks once again for everyone's input.
