John Stewart, born 1773 in Perthshire, Scotland.  He lived in Blairgowrie, Perthshire where his children were born.  He emigrated with four of his sons to Flamborough County, Ontario in the 1830s.

4X great grandfather Charles was his son.  Charles married Anne Niven in Bendochy church a few miles from Blairgowrie. It is a rural area and the churchyard contains a lot of Stewarts so it is possible that our family were farmers in the area.

Charles went to Dundee where he became a mason.  There was a mason in Dundee named Alexander Stewart who may have been his Uncle and who taught him the trade.

Charles and family emigrated to Canada in 1863 joining his brothers near Hamilton.   John had died in 1856.

Hi russ.ocean,

By any chance did your John Stewart from Blairgowrie also have daughters as well as the sons?  I have a John Stewart who married a May or Marjory Grant in 1799 in Blairgowrie.  I have found 3 daughters and 2 sons but of course there could have been more....the ones I have are Jean b 1800, George b 1804, Eliza b 1806, Catharine b 1808 (my connection) and Thomas Andrew b 1811.  All born in Blairgowrie.  Does anything co-incide?  Cheers
Drummond, Ferguson, Hepburn, Carstairs, Ford, Edmonstone, Eadie, Owler or Wooler, Deuchars, McIsaac, Anderson, Panton, Smeaton or Smitton

Hi

I have a Margaret Stewart born 5 August 1809 in Blair Atholl to Robert Stewart and Janet Robertson but I cannot find anything after that - she may have gone to Northern Ireland but cannot be sure. Hoping you can help.
Jill

There are two Margaret Stewart deaths on SP with mother's surname Robertson and birth year of 1809 - you'd need to view the certificates to confirm or rule out if it is either of those.

1. Dunfermline in 1883 ref 424 / 73
2. Caputh in 1875 ref 337 / 11

SP is ScotlandsPeople - the government department web-site.  You buy Credits - it's not too expensive.  If you know the locality of the death, approximate age or name of mother you can narrow it down.

STEWART MARGARET  73y ROBERTSON F  1883  424 / 73  DUNFERMLINE
(So her mother's maiden name was Robertson)

The Caputh one we have on file....
She was the widow of Alexander Stewart, farmer, and died at West Lodge, Caputh
She was the daughter of John Robertson and Janet Robertson (same maiden name) and the informant on the death certificate was Jessie Stewart, her daughter

That is great help thankyou. I can eliminate the Caputh Margaret Stewart now.

Can you possibly also help with a Donald Stewart b 1724 d 1800 - trying to track his parents? I beleive he married a Janet MacHardy Stewart.
