Somewhere to contribute travellers found in PRs
« on: Friday 04 May 07 02:17 BST (UK) »
Knowing how hard it is to find a family who move around occasionally I can only imagine how hard it is to work on traveller families.  With this in mind I wondered if there is any website or location that keeps names of travellers spotted in Parish registers - along the lines of the stray indexes you see for censuses.  The reason I ask is that I have worked on 2 or 3 parish registers all of which have mentioned travellers amongst their births/deaths/marriages.  As I go by them I always feel like I should make a note of them as I'm sure someone may be looking for them.

I understand that some of these may not be "travellers" in the strictest sense of the word but it wouldn't do any harm to try to get their records together in one place.

Ideas??

Hi Louise

One of our members has such a site right here on Rootschat

I'm sure she would be delighted to receive any traveller references that you find.

Thanks Casalguidi,
I'll take a minute to make a note of the ones in the PR I've been working on and pass them along.  Maybe they'll help someone along the way.
