I haven't been on for a while, but would be interested to hear if anyone has managed to find the baptism of John Madgett c 1753 from Thrandeston.  I have looked for many years but without any luck.  Any help would be appreciated.

Will see what I can find in my records this evening and let you know!!

On another topic, does anyone know about a Madgett who was a convict and sent to Botany Bay sometime in the 1900's who had a son who came to englad to try and claim land in Australia that may have belonged to this convict?
It was mentioned in notes I have from a Frank Swootman Madgett.

Cheers,
Gill

Hello
Thank you for offering to look up John Madgett in your records.

I have had a look for convicts sent to Botany Bay, but I have nothing for the 1900's.

If I find anything I will let you know,
Regards

Tricia

I have not been able to find anything yet but I am hoping some other resources will become available next month as part of a fmaily history course I am doing through a university.

I would really like to solve the mystery of the two Georges and who their parents were, John and Elizabeth did not father both of them in the same year...unless this is one George with two lives, not sure how I wulod prove that!

Hello
I have just been looking at my information (gathered many years ago) for George's

I have these entries. George Madgett son of John and Elizabeth Madgett her maiden name was Meen on 12/08/1791

the other George  born approx. 1791 who married Phoebe Cobb

I also have a George Madgett baptised  13/12/1787 Diss Fathers name given as Matchett. Perhaps the last two could be the same people.

I come from the Thrandeston Madgetts, my maiden name was Madgett.

I used to write to someone named Dean in Australia many years ago - could you be the same person?

Will keep browsing my records.

Regards

Tricia

Hi Tricia,
Were you writing to a John Dean in Canberra in the 1980's? That is my dad and he has passed on all the letters from a Patricia. Is that you?

Madgett was his mum maiden name.

Hello
Yes I am the Patricia that he wrote to!!  Glad he passed on his records to you and it is nice that you have carried on the researching.

I have been looking at some bits on the Madgett pages where someone was asking about a John that married a Harriet.  Well I was looking at Stephen Madgett and Ann Fuller,  I have them having one son John who I have as marrying a Mary. This John died in Gravesend in 1883. So didn't go to Canada. They had three sons William John and Stephen.   Have I this recorded correctly?

They all appeared on a 1851 and 1861 census that I have copies of.

Perhaps it is this John that was born c. 1843. that went to Canada?  I agree with so many of them using the same name we all get so muddled...

Regards
Patricia
