Hi, Jo!

You're welcome!

I wonder if Toni was looking at a transcription that lumped them all together?  I'm sure she will let you know.  I was looking at the actual census images online.

Yes, it's possible that Alice was elsewhere that night or might have died between 1891-1901.  I took a quick look and couldn't identify a death for her on FreeBMD and couldn't find her in 1901 but maybe someone else can.

That 1911 census can't come out soon enough for us, eh?  I'm hoping it will help solve a lot of mysteries for many of us.

Regards,
Josephine

Jo,

FreeBMD has a birth for a Caroline Shepherd in Warwick who would seem to match the girl in the 1891 & 1901 census:

December Quarter 1889, Volume 6d, Page 556

This wouldn't line up with an April birthday unless it was registered quite late and it obviously is not in Tewksbury.

Regards,
Josephine

Jo,

The BMD index on Ancestry has a death for a William Shepherd, born about 1853, whose death was registered January-March 1902 in Warwick, Warwickshire.  This might line up with the man in the census.

There is someone on the Warwickshire board who posted that he was willing to do parish records look-ups in Warwickshire:

http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/board,266.0.html

I wonder if he might be able to look up this man's death for you.  (You could include a link to this thread in your query in case he comes across anything pertaining to the other members of the family.)  That would save you having to pay for a death certificate for someone who might not be related.

Then, if you have the date of death, you can write to the local library and ask them to look for his obit, in case it mentions his children.

Here is some information on The National Archives website regarding wills after 1858:

Hi Josephine,

Yes I found that one also.
Would it have been normal to leave it so long before a birth was registered ?
and if it was, would the cert. have the birth as April 18th on it ? even though it wasn't registered till the end of the year.

The 1911 census is going to be very handy, but I could do with much later ones  :(  Christine or Caroline in some cases, had two daughters that left home either just before, during or just after ww2 and were never seen again. It was always understood they went to London. I cant imagine even starting to trace them. I'm having enough stress with grandmother  ::)

Just noticed your latest posting, thats great Josephine, I cant thank you enough. you've been so helpful
Is it easy to post a link.

regards

Jo

Jo,

Just copy and paste the URL into the body of your query and it should work.

I hope you're able to find out more about your family!  I'm happy to help!

Josephine

yes i was looking on the 1901 census online site rather than ancestry or an actual image.

this site is quite good (for me) as you can do address searches on there too!
