I am seeking birth details for William Nimmo and Mary Taylor who were married at Falkirk on 13 may 1836.

If anyone has any information about this I would be glad to hear from them.

There's a possible death for Mary in Falkirk 1876. It gives an approx. birthdate of 1817, is this your Mary?    Here's also a list of children in order of birth, which might help towards the parents' names.

The details that you found for the children are all the same as those that I have already for William Nimmo & Mary Taylor, so it seems very likely that you have located the correct death entry for Mary.

Oops, I didn't mean to imply I got these children from the death certificate, I simply got them from the IGI (familysearch).  The death was only a suggestion, I haven't viewed the certificate but you will be able to at ScotlandsPeople. William's death will be a bit tricker but hopefully if you acquire census records also, you can narrow it down.

The Death Cert for Mary Nimmo details as follows:

Mary Nimmo married to William Nimmo (Porter)

Death February 27th 1876 Rankin street, Falkirk Aged 59 years

Parents listed as being Robert Taylor (Miller) Deceased and Margaret Taylor nee Shaw. Deceased

Cause of death is Pneumonia

Death registered by William Nimmo widower.


In the 1871 census the details are as follows

William Nimmo Head Married, aged 60  Carter born Falkirk

Mary Nimmo Wife Married aged 53  born Falkirk

John Nimmo Son Single aged 20 Carter born Falkirk

Bertha Nimmo Daughter aged 15 born Falkirk


In the 1861 census the same family living as above in Rankin Lane with two lodgers

Alexander McPhial Lodger married aged 53 Tailor born Inverness

Mary McPhial Lodger married aged 43 Tailors Wife born Inverness

Thanks to moscan, finding the birth of Mary is easier! She was christened on the 11/15th January 1818 at Falkirk, with parents as shown on the DC. Her siblings are Robert (1812), George (1814), Peter (1821), John (1823) and Janet (1825).

Going by William and Mary's children's names, I'd say his parents are possibly Andrew and Elizabeth. But the death certificate would need to be seen to be sure.

William died February 28th 1878 Rankin Lane, Falkirk aged 61 sadly there are limited details on cert.

His parents are listed as being ? Nimmo Farmer and Elizabeth Nimmo nee Marshall.

John Nimmo (son) registered the death.

There's a birth (April 15th 1822) for an Isabella Nimmo at Falkirk. Her parents are Andrew Nimmo and Elizabeth Marshall.  No sign of William or others though.
