1841/51 census lookup please - Phipers
« on: Thursday 10 May 07 14:51 BST (UK) »
I have found the following illegitimate birth on the IGI:
Fred Phipers
chr 28 Oct 1850
Cottenham
mother: Mary Phipers

Could I please request a lookup for Fred and Mary on the 1851 census? I'm interested to see who they are living with. Also looking for Mary in the 1841 census if anyone would be so kind as to check for me.

Many thanks.

That is fantastic. Thanks very much for your help MaryA.

There appear to be many Phipers in the area (and there are some Phypers in Cambs too ... not sure how they fit in yet).

The name Wayman rings a bell too. I've been holidaying in England (I live in Australia) for the past month and met some of my partner's relatives. The Phipers are his ancestors. He knows little about them, but did tell me about an unmarried mother, who I assume must be Mary - his direct line. I was shown numerous "indentures" some written in Latin on parchment - some were wills, most appeared to be regarding land. I think this may be where I know the name Wayman. Fascinating documents - I wish they were mine! So of course when I got home I couldn't help myself from nosing around for the family  ;).

I've just had another thought. I believe that Mary married a William Moore in Sept 1861. Would you be kind enough to please see if you can find this couple in the 1871 - Fred may have some half siblings.

Thanks again.

PS Just made a discovery! William Phiper's wife is Mary Wayman!

Gee thanks Suz - that seems to confirm Mary's marriage to William Moore - very helpful. Wonder why they're down as visitors rather than daughter and son in law? And no more children for Mary it seems ....

It's not uncommon for family members to be described as visitors on census when they are visiting family -just as quite often a daughter and son in law may be living with parents and just described as Lodgers !

makes it more difficult for us!!!!

William and Mary are to be found in 1881 in Essex

Hi Suz - yes, I suppose nothing should surprise me any more!

If it's not too much trouble could you please supply the 81 census details for William and Mary? I have Fred and family in 1881.

Thanks again.
