Many thanks for that Suz. It's very kind of you.

It must be late there in the UK and you'e still "working"!

Now I've got to try to ID the people in the old documents I looked at (some from the 1700's) and send my finds to their descendant! Great stuff!

... puzzled about Charles Phipers Wayman (neighbour to William Phipers and family) in the 1861 census ... I wonder what the relationship is between him and William and wife Mary Wayman?

Is this simple or am I missing something?

If Charles' surname is Wayman, how does he have the middle name Phipers?

I wonder if Charles was the son of William Wayman and mary Phipers-but born before marriage
You need someone to look up baptisms and marriages

anyway-here is (what looks like) Charles in 1851

Wow, thanks Suz - MUCH more info than I expected! That is wonderful. Will have to work on Charles Phipers Wayman .... still confused ....

I've just been typing all this up to send to their descendant.

Got to go out for a while, but will be back later.

Thanks so much.

Do you know when William Phipers married Mary Wayman?

if it is after Charles Phipers Wayman's birth then there is a possibility Charles is their son and was born before they married.

I'd put a post out for Baptisms

Been through 13 pages for Cottenham in 1841-no sign of Charles Phipers Wayman -found Elizabeth Furbank -and Emmeline Christmas!!!!!

Suppose I better get a few hours sleep!!!

Hi Suz - well you may just be right about Charles Phipers Wayman.

Charles was born in 1829. I believe William Phipers married Mary Wayman in 1832. I have discovered that someone in Canada has done some research on this family - their tree is on the internet and this is the date he gives for this marriage. I have yet to confirm this.

I will send all of this to the Phiper I know - he may wish to contact his Canadian relative.

Many thanks for all your time and efforts - it seems to fit together quite nicely. Still, I do like to know what is on those census entries and to do a bit of digging around for myself. Not too keen on just taking someone else's list of names. And I've already found a marriage that the Canadian chap didn't have.

Good Morning all, and well done Suz, I've woken up to find just how much you've managed to collect!!

My thought about Charles was to wonder whether he was a nephew of one of Mary's brothers as often the middle name comes from the mother - I would look for another Wayman/Phipers marriage just to rule this out.

Morning MaryA,

Suz must have been up till the wee small hours - hope she manages to have a lie-in.

Good thinking. I will look for another marriage just in case.

Thanks for your interest.

Morning,

Another theory is that sometimes a child is given his grandmothers maiden name as a middle name????

I would also put a post asking if anyone has access to baptism records for the area- and see who mother is??
