14 Olive Street Leicester

not sure if this is in the correct post
 
but can anyone tell me what 14 Olive Street Leciester was, and the location of it. -  i am assuming it was a house.

 i have tried to look at it on the aa map and also the multimap online but it says location not found so i assuming that it no longer exists,

the reason i ask is it was where my grandmother was born.

Hi Toni,
According to the 1901 census Olive Street appears to be a normal street of houses.
The district is as follows...
Leicester, formerly All Saints
Enumeration District 7


Bounded on the South by St Peters Lane, bounded by the East by Vauxhall Street, bounded on the North by Elbow Lane and bounded by the West by All Saints Churchyard.

I think St Peters lane and Elbow lane still axist.

In 1891
Description of boundaries and contents of ED 37,All Saints, West Leicester

Olive Street
Olive Hill
Durham Street
Causeway Lane
Vauxhall Street
Vine Street
Lower Vine Street
With all courts and yards within

I think Causeway Lane  and possibly Vine St are still there.

Might narrow the area down a little!
 It is disappointing when the street has gone, it possibly might have been near The Shires shopping Centre site.

Greeting’s Folks …….

My 1904 Map puts Olive Street as follows :~

On a North / South Direction.

Runs from Junior Street north to
Long Lane ( Which was the continuation of Cumberland Street )

Even Numbers being on the Left hand side.
With what looks like a covered entry between No's 10~12.
This row of terraced houses backed on to the houses in Burgess Street
With outhouses between forming a court yard.
Just a row of Terraced houses the other side of the road
With Durham Street half way down.   

On modern maps Junior Street is still shown
Along with Burgess Street.
 
BUT today this whole area is under construction.
soon to be named “ The  Highcross Quarter “
which is the extension to the " Shires."   
With blocks of flats which were built on where Factories once stood.
 
Yet another part of our Heritage disappearing sad to say.
