Brewer family, Tongham, Surrey

Hello all,

Is anyone researching the Brewer family in Tongham, Surrey?

My ggg grandfather Henry Kingston Goater died in Tongham in 1921 while visiting a cousin who is a witness on his death certificate, Kate Brewer.

I'm struggling to find the connection, can't find a Goater Brewer marriage on freeBMD and would love to know where she fits in and also if the connection can shed some light on Henry's father William, my gggg grandfather.

The address at which he died was 4 Aden Villas, Tongham. I'd love to know if this address still exists and perhaps get a photo?!!!

I'd love to hear from anyone who thinks they can help.

If she is his cousin, there may be more names to get through to get the link!

E.g Henry's dad Mr Goater could have had a sister, X Goater. She married Mr Bloggs (as an example) and had daughter kate Bloggs, who was therefore Henry's cousin. Kate grew up and married Mr Brewer.

Or alternatively Henry Goater's mum, who was shall we say nee Smith, had a brother A Smith, or a sister B Smith. A Smith could have had a daughter Kate who married a Mr Brewer - she would have been a cousin of Henry. Or B Smith could have married a Mr Brewer and had a daughter Kate, who was still single when she registered cousin Henry's death. Or B Smith could have married a Mr Jones, and had daughter Kate Jones, still Henry's cousin, who in turn married a Mr Brewer.

I think you will need to broaden out the research, find all Henry's parents siblings and all their children till you get to Kate.

Thanks for your replies.

The problem is I don't know anything about Henry's parent's siblings - his father William is my brick wall (don't know where he came from and he died in the Crimea) and his wife was Irish so struggling on her also.

I have sent for a possible birth certificate as a starting point so fingrs crossed.

Will have a look at the Tongham timeline.

First difficultu - I cant find a death for Henry Goater in 1921 in the indexes!

You say you have the death cert though. How old was he when he died?

Sorry Liz - got my dates muddled. He was born 27th October 1853 and died 23rd July 1920 - 66 when he died.

He was Henry Kingston Goater and was born in Malta. I've attached a picture of him.
