1881 census, somewhere in Scotland .
« on: Thursday 17 May 07 22:41 BST (UK) »
Hi there,  I could do with some help,     My Samuel Lowen born Ireland abt 1852, married Eleanor Bishop, also Irish, but someone who got in touch with me, said they had crossed over to Scotland , and should be on the Scotish 1881 census,   I know by 1883 they were in Camberwell, Surrey.
, because that is where their first son Charles was born,     my question is,  how do I locate the Scotish 1881 census,       thankyou from Eilleen.

Hello Eilleen,

The 1881 Scottish census is available at www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk (you have to purchase credits, however; it is not free to search).

Modified to add: it is also searchable on the subscription site www.ancestry.co.uk

Hope that helps

there is this marriage FreeBMD

Dec qtr 1881
Camberwell
on same page
Samuel Lowen

Suzard,  thankyou for the marriage imformation, I will send for that tomorrow.
Monica,  I supose that could be Samuel Lowen, the mining would not  have done his hand's any good, he was a jeweller by trade, but I know I must not rule anything out :). so I will hope that his father is named on his marriage cert, and check it with what you found for me , thankyou all, will keep you imformed, from Eilleen.

Eilleen

If he was a jeweller by trade, then not looking promising for that Scottish 1881 entry  :-\ As you say, keep it mind though.

From the 1881 entry, it looks like the mother may have remarried given her married name is different to this Samuel (Porter). Pure guess, but given there were at least two Adams in the household, maybe her first husband also went by that name.

Good luck  :)

Regards.

I see that the someone else on another site is researching Samuel - Shuttle196 (unless this is you?)

I have had a look for Samuel, but without success so far: will try to get back to it later as it is intriguing me!

kind regards, Arranroots  ;)
