MCLAUSE, MCLAWS, MCLEHOSE, MCILHOSE etc, All
« on: Sunday 05 December 04 00:36 GMT (UK) »
I have a large database for the Scottish name "McLaws" and variants; to date I have found more than 75 variant spellings in the OPRs, Statutory Registers, and Censuses.

I have also seen families which became HOSE, or occasionally HOSIE/HOSEA, and one which adopted HOZIER - though all three of these spellings do also have other origins.   I probably should mention that I have not, to date, come across any family which became LAWS or variant.

My own MCLAUSE/MCLEHOSE/MCLAWS/etc ancestors hailed from Kippen, Stirlingshire.

I am happy to provide, receive and share information.

Judy

Hi,
my g grandmother was Jane Ann Hall her mother Janet MCIlhose had married William Hall in Glasgow 1st Nov. 1835. Janet, I believe was the daughter of William MClause and Jean Vassie who were married on the 29th of Aug 1803, at Kippen, Stirling.  Do you have any other information on this family and does it fit in with any of yours? with thanks Joany
