How to find a death after 1901?
« on: Sunday 05 December 04 10:26 GMT (UK) »
Hi,
can anyone tell me how I can find a death after 1901?
I'm looking for the deaths of:
Robert Wilson (b1842 Writtle essex)
wife Sarah Jane (b1846 Luddesdown Kent, nee Stirrups)
The last information I have about them comes from the 1901 census: they lived at 9 Station Road Vicarage Row,  (St. Marys) Higham essex. Robert (60) was foreman Platelayer SER. Sarah was 54. Their daughter Elizabeth (26, b Kent Shorne) was living with them at the time.
thank you.

Freebmd - although not complete yet, have some deaths up to 1910....otherwise it means trawling through the indexes on 1837online or at a library......at least it gives the age at death, so it makes it a bit easier to work out probable matches !

I am not sure if Essex have a bmd index online yet......Yorkshire have a good one, but deaths always seem to be left until last.

Hi,
Thanks for the tip. But I think Robert died after 1915. I have a familybible which was his. Last thing he wrote was from 1915. I have no idea when Sarah died, but also after 1901. Robert and Jane were my greatgreatgrandparents.

Hi !!

The only way I have found is to look in the actual parish records for that area.  Some of my family I have found, some I havent.  It is worth a try anyway.

You could also contact the Local History group for that area, they may already have a list of deaths for that period.

Hope this helps.

Hi Dutch Missmarple,

Why don't you check it at 1837online.com?
It's not free but with the new index search, I do not think it will cost you that many units to find the data. I have made a lot of 20th century searching on the site and found everything I was looking for. Certainly worth it when one is searching from abroad like you and me!

Hi,
I did have a quick look (some time ago.) But do you know how many robert wilsons there are? Too many!
How do I know which Robert is the right one. I don't even know if he died in Shorne Kent or somewhere else.
Since place of birth isn't mentioned on 1837online it's (almost?) impossible to find him. Or am I doing something wrong?
But thanks for the tip anyway.
