I see this post is now down as 'completed' i am hoping this message is seen by Carol.
I am also researching the Reygate's and read all about the New Zealand voyage in 1876-7 and Edward R who sadly died on board age 30, his wife Ann then settled in Timaru as you know.
If you wish to discuss please let me know, i have plenty of information from the Surrey side where they originated.

Hi Carol

I also come from the same line.
William 1761-1851 and Rebecca 1781-1854 had several children, one a son Edward 1817-1891 he married Maria Grant 1827-1873 - she brought a hereditary illness into the family called Huntingtons and passed it onto just about all her children, my mothers siblings died of it 5 generations later (she was the lucky one who didn't get the gene) even today there are cousins in my family in their 20's being diagnosed with this crippling illness which kills most in their 40's.
Maria died in 1873 in a lunatic asylum and is buried in Banstead, Surrey.
I have copies of death certificates and entries into Surrey lunatic asylums for most of their children.
i traced the Reygates back to 1700.
Have you seen all the information available on Edward Reygate and his failed voyage to NZ?
If you wish to discuss this via email drop me a private message i will give you my email address, i am intrigued to know where you fit in this big tree.
All the best, Lee.
