I'll let you sort through all this and let me know if you need me to look up anything else, as otherwise I tend to get carried away  ::)

There is a gravestone at Arthuret which might be the George and Ann in the census reports - if this is your Andrew it would confirm his parents.

In memory of Ann wife of George FORSTER who died at Todhills July 19th 1862 aged 48 years. Also the above George FORSTER who died March 27th 1892 aged 78 years. Also Andrew son of the above George and Ann FORSTER who died at Ponteland Northumberland June 26th 1923 aged 74 years. Also Margaret CARTNER daughter of the above George and Ann FORSTER who died at South Shields March 30th 1924 aged 77 years. Also of Mary beloved wife of David JOHNSTON and eldest daughter of the above who died at Sykehead Hethersgill April 20th 1935 aged 90 years.

And one beside it, which is very likely related:

In memory of Mary wife of James FORSTER of Hallburn who died April 5th 1860 aged 79 years. Also of the above James FORSTER who died May 4th 1873 aged 93 years. Also John their son who died Octr 5th 1863 aged 47 years. Also Margaret his daughter who died at Todhills June 13th 1894 in her 73rd year.

(Reverse) In memory of George FORSTER senior of Slealands who died July 19th 1805 aged 59 years. Also Margaret Mary and Jane daughters of James FORSTER of Slealands who died in their infancy.

Cheers
Bridget

Wow, thanks Jenny and Bridget for your kind responses, that gives me loads to be going on with.  I think sometimes the harder you look the less you see and a fresh pair of eyes often does the trick.  I am touched at your help - THANK YOU.

Bridget - may I ask are you on the Cumberland names list?  If you are then I have tried to email you and it was returned!!! lol

The name Cartner rings a bell from some previous information - I will have to dig out and find it.

Thank you so much - your help, efforts and kindness is much appreciated.  If I can share any information then please let me know.

Vik

Just to update you (and thank you once again for the magnificent heads-up you gave me), I have been contacted by a relative who has confirmed the grave memorials - dates, places and names!  Fantastic.
