Charles Twigg was married to Mirian Worrall (a widow ) her father was William Ireland.

Anyone have any information on this family please.

would love to find I (we) were descended from my most favorite castle in all the world  ;D

Capt. Steve,

Did you realise that you were talking 1659 here?  Phew!!!

--------

LDS FHL BRITISH Film 0258497
"Surname W ad Co. Antrim Extracts"
[Part of Box 9 of the Tenison GROVES Collection at PRONI.]

P. 14887 et al

[Apparently a (1865 transcription of a) 1659 Census of Co. Antrim, and then of the Co. & Town of Carrickfergus.]

--------

Carrickfergus

P1. The Garrison Soldiers, being three foot companies in the said town and their wifes.

Capt. Charles TWIGG Esq
Richard BAKER Ensign gent
Capt Leut HARRAWAY gent
Ensign William BRURTON gent
Coll John FORGES Esq
Capt Leut Benjamin BARRINGTON gent
?Carigle Richard ELLIOTT gent

349 persons.
Made up of 218 "English" & 97 "Irish".

--------

N.B. The "Scots" were frequently grouped with the "Irish" in these early surveys.

[Oliver CROMWELL had chased the Scots out of Belfast earlier, because of their support for the Royal (STUART) cause.]

So, Capt. TWIGG would have been present at that time on behalf of the (soon to b superceded) English "Commonwealth".

Presumably you are hoping that he survived the purges of the Restoration in 1660, subsequently producing little TWIGG-lets in the area.

Historically humbling and mouth watering stuff ...

An unusual surname, so you might be lucky!
Best of luck.

WHITTLE - Dublin, Glenavy, Muckamore, Belfast; Jamaica; Norfolk (Virginia), Baltimore (Maryland), New York
CHAINE - Ballymena, Muckamore, Larne

sorry I have taken so long to reply...my rellie hunt is non existing ......at the moment.......I am having withdrawal symptoms from RC..... :'(

You are right...I am hoping that some little Twiglets were left in the area and also to find out what area /place Charles original hailed from....

I am trying to link two Twig/Twigg/Twigge families together in the hope my lot pop out.

Thank you for the information...think I need to study Carrick a bit closer now

forever grateful

Take a regular dose of the strong dark medicine!

So, looks like Capt. Charlie made it through OK!

Found it with a Quick Search (for "charles twigg") on the UK's National Archives.
[They have a lot of non-Kew stuff indexed there now.]
