Frances,

That's wonderful.  Thank you so much.

Could I ask a further favour - same place, Royston and Bassingbourne workhouse.

I believe that Simeon may have had family in the workhouse with him.  Two siblings.

John Stamford/Stanford
William Stamford/Stanford and his wife Susan.

If not too much trouble, could I ask for a look up to see if they are there? And references if different so I can order a copy from Cambs Records Office.

Many thanks.  And thank you for what you have done.

Regards

Hi Ka,

The only William and John in the workhouse were ages 9 and 7, were they Simeons sons I wonder? Found this but not in workhouse, is he yours? If you can give me Johns age or any other information I will see if I can find him in another village.
Regards, Frances

Frances,

Even better.  William is Simeon's elder brother.  Looks as if he inherited the farm, whilst younger brother went into the workhouse with his children - the 9 and 7 year old William and John, you found.

The adult, John, I am looking for, would have been born 1798/9, and I am hoping in Whaddon.

By the way, could you tell me, does it say where Simeon, in the workhouse was born?  And would it give a previous occupation?

Thank you very much for your help.  You are unravelling  puzzle for me.  I was under the impression that siblings William, John and Simeon were in the workhouse.  But it now looks as only Simeon, who had children called William and John, were in there, which would make much more sense.

Many thanks

Frances,

I don't think that is him, however can I have the details for elimination purposes.  There are so many John and William Stamford/Stanfords in the Melbourne, Bassingbourne, Whaddon area, that it is hard to tell them apart at times.

A thought, as well as a birth place for Simeon, would there be a birth place for the two boys?  My problem is there are also two Simeon's born in the same year!  So placing them at certains times would be a help.

As for the adult John, I can find nothing on him except he was christened on 8 Sep 1799 in Whaddon - although I know there were no Stanford/Stamfords left in Whaddon by 1841.  All seemed to move Bassingbourn.

Many thanks for your help.
