KITCHEN/KITCHING
« on: Friday 25 May 07 15:21 BST (UK) »
I have found evidence that Robert KITCHEN perhaps brother or cousin of my grandfather Anthony, murdered James WEEDY in 1890 and was hanged in York in December 1890 he is mentioned as being aged 34.

In Boroughbridge in 1881 - there is Robert KITCHING age 25
Head of household bn Leeming, Steam Sawyer and Grocer
Jane KITCHING age 23 wife, Bread Baker also there is
Benjamin KITCHEN age 23 born Myton on Swale Steam Sawyer, as Lodger

Benjamin is my grandfather's brother!  I need to know whether Jane and her children are on the 1891 census and if she is a Widow.  Can anyone help please?  I have applied to the Record Office in Harrogate for the marriage of Robert, at Bedale, to find out who his father is.

hi Noreen,

All the Jane Kitchen/Kitchings in the 91 seem to be married (or servants) - none appear to have a husband Robert.

Does the 1881 census give Jane's place of birth? Do you know the names of any of her children we should be looking for?

Her husband Robert was hanged in York, in 1890, so I wondered where Jane might be in 1891.  She would perhaps be a Widow with children.  She was born in Leeming in 1881 census, and was 23 so perhaps would be aged 33/4.

Thank you very much for trying to find out for me.

Poor girl, finding herself in this position and having to bring up her children without their father.  Thank you for your help in finding this for me.

I will have to find out more about them in the 1901 census.  This census is only 3 months after he was hanged.

I can't thank you enough for finding this.

Regards

Dear Noreen

On doing a trawl for info on the Weeedy family I came across your post from 2007 and thought you might me interested in the following.  The James Weedy who was murdered was nephew of my 3 x gt grandmother.  I have photocopies of newspaper articles which I purchased from York Library.  Robert Kitching writes to his wife and children before he is hung at York.  I was hoping for more about James Weedy but in the main it is all about Robert, his trial and his family as well as the murder itself.  Worth contacting  them
