Thankyou for the latest re my Smart family.

You wrote-----

"From my Family History Society disk
Leicester / shire Index Marriages 1801. ~ 1837.
"

Does your disk hold exactly the same information as a Parish Register?

I ask because, whilst researching the Welsh side of my family i sent for 2 copies of Parish registers from  Clwyd Family History Soc. Each register is for a single village between certain dates [early 1700-1800s ]and includes BMDs.

With a paper register it's easy to search for names/dates but being a 'non-tech' person wondered if --A-the discs hold more info OR --B they are easier/harder to extract info from??  Basically after waffling !! i'm wondering if i should stick to the paper variety or go 'High tech' and purchase some disks ;D Poli.

Greeting’s Again. ……  Poli

That disk I quoted gives only an Index Ref.
e.g. :~

Thomas Smart married Elizabeth Wright.
1836.
Whitwick Parish.
& because there was not the Letter “ L “
then it was performed by Banns.

Therefore I would say that your hard copy of Parish Registers
Would contain a lot more details.
Being taken straight from the Parish registers.
Word for word.

The Leicester & Rutland Family History Society
Only do the separate disks or Fiches for :~
Baptisms , Marriages, & Burials
I have not heard of them doing
hard paper copies of the Parish Registers covering all three events
on the one paper , but I may be wrong.?

Re the “ Tech stuff “
These disks do not have a “ Search programme.”
Just set out in alphabet order.
You have to scroll down till you reach the name you are searching for.

But having said all that one of my Marriage disks for St. Margaret’s Parish.
Gives you the FULL transcriptions of the marriage including Witnesses, Ages, Occupations, addresses. and Father of Bride & Groom.

Hope this answers your query.?

Thanks for replying Mike.

I've just made enquires re one name studies.
I'm getting into difficulties now with some of the Smart lines and i'd hate to find in a couple of years time that i've been adding unrelated Smarts to my tree!!!

Like most trees though, anything pre 1837 needs thorough investigation.
