Alexander (or James?) Russell or Russel working at Gordon 1807
« on: Friday 25 May 07 22:48 BST (UK) »
Does anyone have any information about ALEXANDER RUSSELL OR RUSSEL especially birth, marriage or death dates/places?
All I know is he was working on a farm at Greenknowe, Gordon in or around 1807 when his son ADAM RUSSELL OR RUSSEL was born.

Anything at all connected would be appreciated.

I beleive Greenknowe was owned by the Lyals  -  the sister of an ancestor married into the family in the 1840s.  Greenknowe is near Greenlaw - and I have a memory of an ancient tower on the land (long time since I was there, as a tourist!).  Robert Lyal (my "aunt"'s husband ) was the son of William Lyal who was probably a contemporary of your Russell, but I have no direct information.

Knox (Greenlaw/Claydub/Edinburgh);
Syme or Sime (North Berwick/Montrose (Brechin);
McMurtrie (Dalmellington); Lamont/Limont(?);
Williams (Hampstead)/Glamorgan;
Lord (Hampstead/Lancashire);
Isaac (Wiltshire/Gower Peninsula) ;
Rowen or Rowan (Manchester);
Greenwood (Lancashire);
Also Forsythe; Kyle; Trotter; Hislop/Hoslop; Henderson; Chaplin; Parr; Mc Lean; Gourlay ; Harford

Thanks for background information.  I have also visited the tower.
