Compton stationed in Canterbury

I am trying to find the Army unit that was stationed at "The Barracks" Northgate Canterbury, Canterbury St. Mary Northgate, Canterbury in 1881 plus any other information.   
The 1881 census shows, amongst others, my Grandfather - Richard Garibaldi COMPTON  aged 23, a Corporal - being there but I have had no luck tracing any further information.
Is there anyone that can point me in the right direction please?

The description of enumeration district has Buffs & Hussars written on it.

It would be worth checking nearby pages of the enumeration district eg. page 41 is F Battery C Brigade Royal Horse Artillery.
