Mitch

Seeing the photo of him on the Scout car, can idicate that he was probably in an armoured formation.

Still not made out the badges he's wearing yet.  :)

The badge looks like an Ordnance Corp badge.  The Scout car appears to be a Daimler 'Dingo'.  8)

Thank you again I'll take a look at this.
I think the photo with the peaked  cap is when he first entered the army and the one where he has a flat hat is when he was actually there in Palestine - could it be poss that he moved regiments?
With me not knowing much about it I don't know if this can be done or not.

Regards
Mitch

This post caught my attention because my late father-in-law was in the Royal Army Service Corps in Palestine at the end of WWII. He came home in 1948 and met his 9 month old son, my husband. I've looked at Gig's link to Palestine Units but it 'rings no bells' and the OH has just gone to bed. Wondered if anyone knows if I can find out which unit he served in and where he went etc.
Mrs Doc
I am sorry but my email address is not working.

Atom12, This could be correct as I have since spoken to my uncle and he said that he thinks that my grandad was involved in the peace keeping at the end  or just after the end of the war (Like Gig surgested), but he cant remember for sure.
Do you know what the badge would have been like so I can try and look it up on the net?
Do you know anything about the flat hat that he is wearing in the second photo is this a hat that a corp. would have worn?

Kind regards
Mitch

Hi Mitch

I don't know much about the flat hat on the second photo, but no doubt someone else will.  It is the type of hat they would wear when dressed for walking out, rather than a working cap.

Here is a WW2 RAOC cap badge for you:

Reid: Nicol: Peterhead and Aberdeen
McDonald: Greig: Milne: Aberdeenshire
Moreland: Lanarkshire, Whitehaven in Cumbria and Ireland
Cunningham: Lanarkshire, Cumbria and Ireland
Halliday: Falkirk, Stirlingshire and Ireland

In the photo where the subject is wearing a hat he is also wearing the two pips of a Lieutenant - that seems to be rapid promotion.
Looking at that scout car I was immediately reminded of the Palestine Police but their cap badge was nothing like the one we see in the photo.
Southern or Southan [Hereford , Monmouthshire & Glos], Jenkins, Meredith and Morgan [Monmouthshire and Glos.], Murrill, Damary, Damry, Ray, Lawrence [all Middx. & London], Nethway from Kenn or Yatton. Also Riley and Lyons in South Africa and Riley from St. Helena.
