And with even less confidence it is possible that Mary's father was Ebenezer b1786.

Yes, I've seen that one - but I think this is highly risky unless you have her marriage certificate to back that up as father's name.  We see her as Mary upon marriage to Robert, Mary in 1851, Mary in 1861 - and yet here she is Maryanne.  We see her as 32 in 1851 (b abt 1819) and 41 in 1861 (b abt 1820) - and yet here she is 25 which of course in the context of the 1841 census means 25-29 - thus b abt 1812-1816.

I wouldn't be leaping to any conclusions whatsoever on the basis of this census return ;)

Wonder why they didnt marry in Gravesend - or even in Holborn - kinda suggests she was in the Strood overall area at the time - which might lend weight to AVM's point ?

Thanks Newfy! :) I'd missed that. Hmmm that was certainly close.

No certs for George as yet but you are right, that would indeed confirm the Fernie link if it was correct.

Good points about the Fernie connection. As I said, these are VERY tentative connections right now.

I think I will be spending some money on certs on this line sometime soon.

Thanks Newfy. I've spent many hours scanning CityArk documents. A mine of information!

I've tried to find parish records for Holborn. I've been in touch with the transcriber but she is some way from the dates I am looking for.

FYI.

I finally got around to ordering the North Aylesford marriage cert.

Robert's father is Richard (gardener) which is confirmed elsewhere as him but the Mary Fernie is not the daughter of Ebenezer, her father is recorded as William (looks like tailor). Her age is 27, confirming the 1819 dob.

I cant find her in 1841 and I still haven't found Robert in 1861.
