Sitting on fence need help!!
« on: Thursday 31 May 07 00:49 BST (UK) »
I have traced my Baynes family to the village of Skelton on Ure, near Ripon. My earliest ancestor there is a Richard Baynes, who was born according to census data, (only the 1841, he died 1844) and his death certificate, about 1768, in county. Searching the IGI for possible baptisms (extracted records only), for Richard,  in the Skelton area , highlights a Baynes family at Topcliffe by Thirsk. Here there is a Richard baptized, 20 Jun 1768, father, Thomas Baynes.
Richard married his first wife, Isabella Mountain, 25 Nov 1794, Ripon Collegiate. There was an Isobel Mountain, baptized at Topcliffe, 15 May 1764, father, Thomas Mountain. Her mother was probably Sarah Lawson.

I have no other evidence save naming pattern of children and the fact, Richard and Isabella do not show up in Topcliffe records after their baptisms. Anyone have any thoughts on this?
