MORGAN Trevethin
« on: Monday 06 December 04 15:43 GMT (UK) »
I always knew this would be tricky, but I am failing to find my MORGAN family in 1871 or 1891 census or elsewhere.  They are (birth dates approximate in most cases)   :P

John b 1846 Trevethin (Head)
Caroline b 1847 (wife) and children:
George Samuel b 2.1.1870 Trevethin
David J b 1872 Trevethin
Alfred James b 1874 Trevethin
Phoebe (Feby) Ann b 1874 Trevethin
Ed Albert b 1878 Trevethin
Tom b 1800 Llantarnam (twin birth??)
Ebenezer b 1883 Llantarnam
William b 188?
Caroline b 1887
Edwin C b 1889 Gwrhay
Mary Jane b 1892 Gwrhay

Are 1871/ 1891 records available?  Any suggestions where else I could look to pursue this?

When John appears in 1901 he is widowed, possibly for the second time, as Tom's birth cert (which I hold) gives his mother's name as Catherine.

Appreciate any encouragement to go on!!

Hi Arranroots

I have the Mon 1871 census on cd but it is unindexed.
the district of Trevethin would take hours to search without a reference or more localised info such as garndiffaith,Tranch etc

Gwent fhs has census indices for 51/61 and 71 on microfiche.  They have published The 61  index on cd.
and The 71 cd will be released in the near future

These can be purchased from them or on the Parish
Chest website

Wow!  You are stars - thank you both so much!!

These are definitely they.  I have a whole host of WEBBS to trace, so maybe should invest in the software in case my ancestry subscription needs renewing before Monmouth appears!

Diolch (hope I spelt that right?!?)
