Sorry Betty, although I spent a lot of my youth in Eltham, I still managed to get it confused with Elham when I first started, and I didn't want to go there again.  Although I'm researching both sides of my family tree, my dad's side is proving to be much harder, because he never used to speak about his family, and never kept in touch with them, and now I don't have contact with any living relatives on his side at all.  So the whole thing has been one long paper chase.  Very interesting, though.  Let's hope those CD's arrive soon

You were right about the marriage.  I got a copy of their son's Birth Certificate this morning, and the mother's maiden name was Stead. 

Just proves that you shouldn't disregard the unlikely.  Still learning !

I've had much the same problem, my father wouldn't talk about his father's side, & said very little about his mother. I'm slowly digging them up!!
I hope you find the CDs useful. I'm planning on joining the Kent FHS soon as I'll be needing CDs of Parish registers.
