Thanks so much for the link to this site. I registered and used the Times (found a few things), then tried to go back a few days later and it didn't like password/pin. Sent them an e-mail explaining the problem and a few hours later they sent me a message with a new PIN which is working fine now.

Did you try:

NB: From time to time, the password changes. To get hold of the new password go through stage 2 again from the beginning.

If so, thank you for the alternative route.  :)

Paul- the problem wasn't the password it was the PIN- they said there was a problem with the one they first sent me and then gave me a new one which worked.

I don't know about other libraries, but my card also gives me free access to lots of very useful sites, like the DNB. OED, News UK and Infotrack - at least I'm getting something back for all the Council tax we pay

For anyone who lives in Queensland, Oz, you can get a free e-services card for the State Library of Queensland, and this enables you to access the Times Digital Archive and have various other useful accesses at the SLQ.  You apply online and your card comes in the mail, usually quite quickly.
