Where do I find information?

I am trying to find out more about my husbands family.  All he knows is that his father was born in 1923, he visited family in castle island, he came to Lincolnshire and in the late 1950's married my husbands mother, moved to Huddersfield, had another 4 children and sadly died in 1986.

He came from a large family of 21 these are afew names he could remember denis, mary, paddy, francis and brydie and alot died young.

I just dont know where to start looking, as I was told there had been a big fire and records were burnt.

A good first step for you would be to apply for John Joseph's birth cert.

I imagine that his name would be a fairly common one so hopefully you have an accurate date of birth and not just the year.

The cert will give you, amongst other things, his parents names and their address at the time of his birth.

Great thanks for that, I have his birthday but know nothing of his parents, just hope no one else named their child the same.
