Stone mason apprenticeship
« on: Monday 06 December 04 19:50 GMT (UK) »
I know my ancestor was apprenticed as a stone mason at age 13 in Hull, Yorkshire (around 1881-1883).  Is there any value to trying to trace his apprenticeship papers?  Other than to have another document to my collection. ;D

If it were me, I'd want to have them.  I'm not sure what they would contain, but the name of the master / firm to which he was apprenticed would lead you to the buildings he might have worked on.  It would be a fascinating bit of social history.
Godden in East Sussex, mainly Hastings area.
Richards in Lea, Gloucestershire, then London.
Williamson in Leith, Vickers in Nottingham.
Webb in Bildeston and Colchester.
Wesbroom in Kirby le Soken.
Ellington in Harwich.
Park, Palmer, Segar and Peartree in Kersey.
