SCALLAN [Skallan]
« on: Monday 04 June 07 04:57 BST (UK) »
Good morning members,

I am attemptiing to discover more about my GGGGrandmother -

Margaret SCALLAN
b c1770 possibly in Wexford IRE

Margaret SCALLAN may have been the grand-daughter of -

William SCALLAN and Elisabeth WALSH
and a relative [niece] of their son Nicolas SCALLAN who emigrated c 1772 to Louisiana USA

Margaret SCALLAN married James FURLONG in Wexford IRE in 1790.

Any assistance however small, will be greatly appreciated..

Was there a Census about 1751 which might identify -
William SCALLAN and Elisabeth WALSH??

Regards

EDO

Hello EDO,

I've linked your   Edmonds m. Furlong thread to this one.

You'll have to rely on Church records as civil registration in Ireland was not introduced until 1864. Non Catholic marriages were registered from 1845 onwards. When registration for BDMS started in 1864 some people didn't bother with the registration for a few years after that date. Keep your fingers crossed that church records still exist.
