Herbalist in Cannon St ?
« on: Monday 04 June 07 13:57 BST (UK) »
My great grandfathers brother, Henry Challoner, had moved to the North East from Shropshire by 1881 (some were here by 1871, the rest had followed by 1891) and he was an ironworker. By 1901 he was living in 197 Cannon St in M'bro and was apparently a herbalist  :o.
He had the following children : Elizabeth,Ethel,John,Joseph,Julia,Margaret,Thomas and William. His wife, Sarah Jane, died 20.02.1901 aged 37, hopefully nothing to do with his herbs.
If there are any descendents out there or anyone remembers hearing any stories (surely a herbalist would've been unusual?) I'd love to know.
