1871 census lookup ROBERTS
« on: Monday 04 June 07 21:40 BST (UK) »
Hi,

I'm looking for a David Roberts born 1829 in St Donats.  He should be married but I don't know his wife's name.  I think he will be living in either Dt Donats or Marcross.

Thanks,
Claire

David Head Marr 42 Ag Lab Glamorgan St Donats
Elizabeth Wife Marr 37 Ag Lab's Wife Glamorgan St Donats

Hi there,

Thank you so much for that info.  I had been searching for a Linus in the family for ages since my nan told me that she remembered him but I could never find him!  If you have them on the next census, that would be great.

I have been trying for ages to find them on the 1881, but all I can come up with is Linus on the 1891, and maybe David jnr on same.

Would you like those since I cannot get them earlier.

Yes please, that would be great.  I'll have to do a bit of digging around for the 1881.  Roberts is a common name as is David so I'll maybe concentrate on Linus...

Thanks again.  You've solved one of my mysteries!

Linus is who I chose to look for in the 1881 first off, but came up blank.  So I went for the younger David .... just in case David and Elizabeth were no longer around............. still no luck.

That's how I found Linus after 1881.

1891 Census Wales Glamorgan Llantrisant
RG12/4417/80/8
37 Pwllgwaun Road ( not sure on the spelling of this address )

ROBERTS
Linus Head Marr 25 Coal Miner Glamorgan St Donats
Mary Wife Marr 32 Breconshire Defynoch
Elizabeth Dau Unmarr 4 Glamorgan Pontypridd
Ernest BLASON Boarder Unmarr 16 Coal Miner Exeter St Mary Major
Enoch WHITE Boarder Unmarr 16 Coal Miner Devonshire Crediton

1901 Census Wales Glamorgan Pontypridd Llantrisant
RG13/5010/121/63
19 Morgan Street

ROBERTS
Linus Head Marr 35 Hewer of Coal Below Ground Glamorgan Pontypridd
Mary Wife Marr 42 Brecon Devynock
Fred GURD Boarder Unmarr 33 Cab Groom Wiltshire Tilbury

If I have the right David :-

1901 Census Wales Glamorgan Oldcastle
RG13/5050/84/40
21 Cheltenham Terrace

ROBERTS
David Head Unmarr 37 House Joiner Carpenter Glamorgan Bridgend

Thank you so much for all that info.  I'll have to make it my challenge to find Linus in 1881!!

It's great when things fall into place.

Marcross comes under the Registration District of Bridgend.

In Q1 1863, on the same page (Vol 11a page 491) there is a David Roberts and an Elizabeth Williams.

Later: But Linas was registered in Pontypridd! Vol 11a, page 269

1881: there is an intriguing "blank" entry - the list of names has been destroyed.

A male aged 16 born Pontypridd, an iron moulder.
