Ian Hunter's essexpubs site

Hi all,

         Ian Hunter's site has had a whole host of updates over the last week or so. Particularly in letters A & B, plus Colchester, Romford etc. You may need to hit the refresh button (F5) to get a current updated view if you have visited any pages previously.
 
        The search engine needs to be updated to catch up!
 
        John Mead is systematically working through the alphabet, I choose an area at will! If you would like to get involved, and find info relevant, this is a simple format, for example:
 
Ship, St Johns St. Colchester
 
1861/William F Lugar/Inn Keeper/27/Ardleigh, Essex/Census
1861/Elizabeth Lugar/Wife/27/London, Middx/Census 1861/Matilda Scutcher/General servant/19/Woolwich, Kent/Census
 
       I am sure many of you have pictures of pubs in Essex, too. Preferably older ones, but everything is very welcome.
 
       As stated previously, if this site ever has to be removed (for whatever reason), there will be a copy in the Essex Record Office.
 
        Any help is very welcome, and Ian Hunter's essexpub site just continues to get better, with the small amount of data that is being added to a monumental work of art. Best Kevan Friends of Ian Hunter and Essexpubs.

      If you are not aware of Ian Hunter, he built a brilliant web site based around Essex Pubs, and died September, 2003. Sadly missed, he shared my humour.

thanks for that Kevan, i was able to pass a couple or three photos of my uncle [capt lawrence]and his pub at Wivenhoe.Captain Lawrence was pallbearer at Capt Fryatt' funeral, a photo of this is held at the Redoubt Fort.
 Capt L became the first Master of SS Bruges which entered service between Harwich and Antwerp in Oct 1920. He stayed with this ship until he retired on 14th Nov 1925. Bruges was a 2949 gross ton passenger ship.Before settling down with wife Minnie Youngs at the Union Flag pub.

Hi,

Does anyone know if Kelly's directories were published during the second world war? A Lawrence family related to my husband were resident in Dunmow's Queen Victoria,at that time but I need verification as to who was named as the publican.

That link (rootsgen*com/essexpubs) from decades ago no longer works but Kevan has continued to do great work - the pubs history website seems to have gone very much further than Essex and London.
