Hi
Info on index is as follows -
Marriage -
TRAVIS  Albert  b. Lancashire 1881
=
HUBBARD  Ellen
Reg 1501

You can search the Victorian BDM online - the long link is under Victorian genealogy at top of board.  You can purchase and download online, an image of the registration which will give you details of parents etc. where born.

Perhaps you have details of the certificate as you know the exact date of the marriage and place and place of birth of the bride.

The closest match for a birth of Ellen/Eliza HIBBARD/HIBBERD  is Eliza Jane HIBBERT in 1859 at Fryers Creek with parents Wm and Mary OBRIEN - and their marriage in 1855 the surname is HIBBAD. On other birth registrations for chn to this couple the surname is HIBBERD with mother Mary OBRIEN.

There are also the following registrations with Helen HIBBARD as mother
Birth
Albert 1887 Northcote Father Albert  Mother Helen HIBBARD  Reg 30701
Death
Albert 1888  Northcote  Father Albert  Mother Helen HIBBARD  Reg  10741

The mother is also named as Ellen HIBBERD and Helen HIBBERD on the other chn birth and death reg.

Chn.George Frederick and Albert died in 1885 and 1888 respectively.

I am unable to find any information in the unassisted index

http://proarchives.imagineering.com.au/index_search.asp?searchid=23
and records for assisted immigration finish at 1871.

Cheers

Thanks to both of you for this information on the family. It is really helpful.

Is there any other passenger lists I can look at to find out when Albert went out to Australia. It must have been sometime between 1871 & 1881.

I have alos been unable to find Albert's  parents George & Harriet with the other children in the 1891 census in England and wondered if they may have also gone out to Australia for a time. I have them in 1901  They were then in Oldham, George age 61 Milk Salesman born Bury, Harriet age 64 born Staleybridge Cheshire.

If anyone has Australia's census records could I be cheeky and ask for a lookup.

regards

Hi dinkey

Unfortunately no census records in Aus :( other than a couple of earlier ones in 1840/41 - I am a bit hazey on this. :-[

However I did find an Albert TRAVIS in 1880 aged 20 as a crew member on the DUMFREISSHIRE which sailed from Liverpool -

and link to scanned  manifest

Age about right.  Just a possibility. Perhaps he headed straight for the goldfields.

Cheers

Thanks for that further information.

I would certainly say that appears to be the Albert Travis I am looking for.
