« on: Wednesday 06 June 07 22:20 BST (UK) »
A dictionary explaining how commodities like absinthe and zoobditty match were sold and used hundreds of years ago has been compiled by university lecturers.
The dictionary of traded goods from 1550 to 1820 has 4,000 terms that are found in trade documents.

Researchers at Wolverhampton University have put the dictionary online.

They are now inviting contributions from people with specialist knowledge of metals, textiles, glass, ceramics, agriculture, imported goods and drugs.

Terms featured in the dictionary include zoobditty match, a rich sauce or pickle based on fish, which was popular in the late 18th century.
