Look-up at Family Records Centre
« on: Thursday 07 June 07 18:58 BST (UK) »

Is anyone going to the Family Records Centre in London please??

I know this is a biggie but would be VERY grateful if anyone could help me out with it!

I need to check the adoption records for 1922-1928.

The name will be registered under Goodwin but don't know what the first name will be (it could be Elsie).  The adoption will probably have taken place in Coventry/Warwick.

If there is anything registered for this person, a ref. no. would be magic.

Many thanks.

Hi Pauline,

many thanks for that.  I have a birth cert for 1922 with "adopted" written on the right hand side.

I assume that if there was no legal adoption before 1927, this would have taken place sometime afterwards.

I have been told that the child was brought up by the grand-parents as one of their own.

Any help or ideas would be great - thanks

Look at the gro index for the 1922 birth and see if there are any other remarks in the index for it.

Let us know what you find.

Pauline

Hi Pauline,

Just a quickie to let you know that I managed to find out about the adoption in question. The lady was adopted, by  the grandparents  so I really didnt need the adoption cert anyway.

Unfortunately she also passed away 2 years ago, and I have managed to tie up the loose ends via other family members.

Many thanks for all your help anyway.  All the best
