Clark's in Holland.
« on: Friday 08 June 07 18:28 BST (UK) »
Anyone have any clues where I would start on this one??

My great Uncle James 'Jimmy' Clark is reported to have stayed in Holland after the war and married a local girl Willifred. They by all account had several children but that is all the info I have.

Jimmy, I believe died in the early 80's.

Any ideas where I might find information on his marriage and family??

Hi KBG,

Do you have any idea where Jimmy was living in the Netherlands because you should be able to get the info from town hall where they lived and married. Its compulsory in Holland to register at the town hall where you live.

Thanks for your reply. That is basically all the info i have. I have received some a copy of their wedding photo but there are no clues in that either.

Hi KBG

the free Dutch site http://www.genlias.nl gives information on births up to 1903, marriages up to 1923 and deaths up to 1939.

So it looks that you may have to try and find them using a different channel.

I have the feeling that I saw your query before? Did you post a similar one before?

It's probably just me, having deja-vu at my age isn't difficult  ;D

Hi Greenvalley,

Thanks for the info. I have posted a query about this on GR so it may be there you saw it.

Thanks again

Been a long time but having another go at this brickwall.

Great Uncle Jimmy stayed in Holland after the war - his bride I now believe was Wilhelmina - known as Willie. A cousin remembers visiting the family in Czar Peter Straat, Amsterdam.

Was he plain "James/Jimmy" or did he have some middle names?

It's possible you'll find him indexed here (although the full records may not be accessible unless you  have some proof of his death).

(There are a few databases - some are during or post WWII.  "Manual" for each database is an explanation).

Thats for the link, I didnt have any proof of middle names but that site has James Alfred Hodson Clark b 1923. Alfred Hodson Clark was James uncle so that works perfectly! That link says its not publicly available yet :/
