FITZMAURICE
« on: Saturday 09 June 07 03:46 BST (UK) »
Does anyone have history on Edmond FITZMAURICE b 1837 in County Kerry ?
He was married in Australia in July 1860, where he was working at the Indigo Gold mine in Victoria. He states that his parents were Thomas [ a farmer] and Margaret HONE.

Any information appreciated.

Hello r_hanger,

What denomination was Edmond? Was he a member of the Catholic faith, the Established Church (Anglicans or Church of Ireland), a Methodist or a Presbyterian?

You'll have to rely on Church records as civil registration in Ireland was not introduced until 1864. Non Catholic marriages were registered from 1845 onwards. When registration for BDMS started in 1864 some people didn't bother with the registration for a few years after that date. Keep your fingers crossed that church records still exist.

Thanks for your reply Christopher. Presume I am looking at the Catholic religion, as the marriage was at the Catholic Church.

Will keep looking
