O'Brien's Bridge: Consedine Family
« on: Sunday 10 June 07 05:22 BST (UK) »
Hello All,
We now know that Edward Consedine, (this name can be spelt in many ways), who died at Geelong, Victoria, Australia, 5 July 1912, came from this place in County Clare.
But, there seem to be more than one "O'Brien's Bridge".
Any clues please as to which might be the correct one?
Regards,
Jean

I checked out O'Briensbridge in Griffiths and there is only one similar surname,  Patrick Consaddine of  Ardataggle, O'Briensbridge, Co Clare.  However, Considines (various spellings) were thick on the ground in Co Clare and may be found outside O'Briensbridge - but not one with the name Edward, as far as I could see.

Do you have names for any of Edward's siblings - or his parents?

Thank you LH,

A cousin has been to Clare and has a report back from the Clare Heritage Centre. My cousin is gong back to Clare soon, and would dearly love to set foot  on the land his ancestors farmed.

The furtherest back we can go, at the moment is parents Patrick Consedine and Mary Kenna.
Children are Edward, bapt 28 Dec 1829, sponsors James and Catherine Madden
Timothy bapt 17 Feb 1832, sponsors Thomas Wilkinson and Mary Madden,
Mary baptised 13 April 1833, sponsors Sam Dandle and Ann Barry,
Michael bapt 15 Oct, 1835, sponsors William Hickey and Catherine Conside.

Our Edward was also known as Edmund, and by the time he died in Victoria, AUS, he was Edward Consedine.

My cousin has been to Obriensbridge, but we are at a loss to find the actual land.

With Regards,
Jean

Hi

Do you think the Patrick I found in O'Briensbridge (in Griffiths) is your ancestor and are you just trying to identify the land they farmed?  This shouldn't be too difficult.

Yes LH, the Parick you found will be ours.  Do yo know how to identify the land he leased?

Thank you,
Jean

Jean - I'll have a look at a couple of old maps for the area.

Do you know from whom the land was leased?

The Tithe Applotment listings again show Patrick in the 1820s at Ardatagill, O'Briensbridge, Killaloe, so the family were fairly well established in that area.

If you now go to:-

http://www.clarelibrary.ie/eolas/coclare/places/o'briens-bridge.htm

you can choose the first option, which shows Townlands of O'Briensbridge - and Ardataggle is shown at the southern end of O'Briensbridge.

Take a look at that www.clarelibrary webside - it is marvellous!

Cheers
