The richard found above on 1901 census married to Ellen Elizabeth is on the 1891 census with occupation book keeper - this is a long shot but would that ever be written Bkeeper? pobably not but i can make that out of the occupation on cert!
It might be woth mentioning that richard senior was desceased at the tome of his sons marriage.

Hmmm, its getting more tricky !

I can't make owt of the scanned occupation - was it at 300 dpi ? Just wondering if you can blow it up a bit - and put a few sections together so that individual letters can be compared ?

Similarly age - it does look like 23, could be 25 - or at a stretch 20 ..... what are the words underneath the age digits ?

Quote
I have found a birth entry in 1913 for a Richard Valentine mother maiden name Willcox born in Barton Irwell! This doesn't fit with his age on marriage cert UNLESS I am reading the age wrong it is a very bad copy! but then there is the death info!

Age is often a problem - and these ages at marriage and death could be consistantly wrong ! If the informant of the death always believed he was of a certain age ..... if you follow me.

Looking at the facts:-

  • No Birth Index match for a Richard 1908 - 1911 in Lancs
  • We have a 1900 Marriage of a Richard V to a Willcox (the only one in a 20 year period yet transcribed
  • That couple can be located in 1901 Chorlton area - and Richard snr comes from STRETFORD
  • 1913 Birth of a Richard V to a Willcox Maiden name  - Barton Irwell, which covers STRETFORD (the PoB of the Richard snr found 1901)
  • Witness (possibly) H Valentine - theres a Barton I birth of a Harry V in 1911

Its all close enough to warrant ordering the 1913 Birth Cert - conditional on Parents christian names ... this if it matches a father Richard, would give us another stab at the Occupation.

If that stage looks good, then the 1900 Marriage Cert would be a goer ...

Cheers for now, N.

I can't see him at the moment - Jessie VALENTINE is with her SPEAKMAN parents in Upholland, Lancs.

Aha ... there's a Richard VALENTINE (mar) 26 Farmer's Son, Standish

with his parents in Wrightington (a few miles NW of Wigan)
