Hi Ken !

I realise your query is almost exhausted with all the wonderful replies you have had, but I would just like to add that the experience of leafing thro' one of those parish registers, if you can travel to one, is wonderful.  The thickness of the paper for a start, and then the thrill of finding a family member, the quill written page.....

What other documents should I look for?

land /court/poor/licensee - all kinda stuff - you really do just have to start and see where it takes you.

Enjoy - but take the spellings with a pinch of salt - that's the hard bit  ;)
