Bishop Nympton- 1770s! Vatter/Vaulter
« on: Thursday 14 June 07 20:36 BST (UK) »
I'm looking  for the birthplace and family of George Vatter/Vaulter: My great great great great grandfather. Evidence suggests he was born around the 1770s give or take 10 years or so! It has been suggested that he came from Devon.  I have no evidence to support this so I am looking in every Devon Parish that had families of surnames,  including and resembling, the Vatters/Vaulters. :-\
He is known to have lived in Stoke Pero, Somerset and to have married Elizabeth Clatworthy in 1804.  He died in Luccombe, Somerset 1835.  However there is no earlier record of him in this area of Exmoor.  He may well have crossed over from the Exmoor part of Devon!  Possible parishes I'm searching include: South Molton, Barnstable, Halburton, Silverton, aswell as Meethe, Bratton Flemming, Bishop Nympton and Chittlehampton.  I would be grateful if anybody can help me narrow down my search.  Many thanks  Mon1  ;)
