Census help please!
« on: Friday 15 June 07 17:33 BST (UK) »
Hi

Can anybody help me find Emma Ellis in the 1861 Census. Born c 1844 in Waltham Abbey, Essex.

I have found her in 1851 and I know she married in 1868 in Shoreditch.

Thanks

Interesting entry - has Emma Ellis as a Lodger in Sewardstone Road, Waltham Holy Cross, but no age or PoB - jus neatly annotated ' Returned at Ponders End' ..

RG9/801; Folio: 119; Page: 1

must be a way to link it ....

That sound really interesting I will go and have a look. What would it mean about ' returned at Ponders End' if she was living in Sewardstone Road which is definatly in Waltham Abbey

Ponders End is in the borough of Enfield.

Have a look at RG9/799; Folio: 70; Page: 16

It means that the Enumerator was informed that the lass, normally a Boarder in the house, was away in Ponders End, and would be part of a local Census Return...

sadly, its not her - she's 20, born in Epping.... visiting a household in which there a 16 year old James Ellis - not a brother we saw in 1851 ..

Yes he has. The new wife is very young!

Its her brothers and sisters from the 1st marriage I am looking at as they seem to have gone from 1861 & 1871 census apart from Thomas who I  can account for.
