Matthews 1901 census
« on: Wednesday 08 December 04 11:14 GMT (UK) »
Can anyone help me...My Grandfather was Alfred Matthews living with William Matthews (aged 39) and Mary Matthews (aged 35) at the time of the 1901 UK Census. Alfred was aged 6.
They were living at no 11 Cecil St in West Derby. William and Mary 'took' my grandfather in to look after him. He was not their real son I believe. His surname was Sharrock.
Does anyone have any information on either William or Mary Matthews at this time, anything at all......
PS William's occupation was stated as a 'Finisher in Lauvage'?
Sharrock, Matthews, Threlfall, Watkins, Liverpool, Hay-on-Wye, Lancashire, Powys

Isabella Linden aged 19 and sister in law of the head of the family William Matthews at 11 Cecil Street in the census of 1901 is Mary's sister.

Mary Ellen Linden was born in the Sept qtr, 1875, volume 8b, page 159 at Liverpool.
Richard Lindon (Mary's father) married Ellen Neil in 1875, Sept qtr, Liverpool, vol 8b, page 356.

you will see that Richard has variations of his surname which makes life easy >:(
