Marriage record-Catherine Brennan/Charles Shelton
« on: Monday 18 June 07 16:34 BST (UK) »
Searching for the marriage of Catherine Brennan born about 1833 in Dundalk to Charles Shelton 2nd Dragoon Guards.
I believe this took place in Dundalk in 1850

I would also like to know what the 2nd Dragoon guards were doing in Dundalk at that time. In the 1851 English census they were in Barracks at newcastle with eldest child Louisa who was born in Newcastle.

Any help on either subject greatly appreciated as I am really struggling to find my way around Irish records and web sites

Fantastic respose. Thank you so much
May I ask the source of the information as I have other Irish ancestors and I need to get a better understanding of researching them
Looks as if Catherine was even younger than I thought - the various English census show her as being born in 1829, 1831 and 1832 and 1833
On checking the census again she was born in  Carlow and her first chld was born in Newcastle but the second child was born in Dundalk so they must have been posted back to Ireland after being in Newcastle in 1851
Is there any way I can check her birth in Carlow?
Really excited by the info you have given me already so many thanks again
Annie
