I had forgotten googlebooks - used it for other ancestral family, but not for a long time.

It has yielded some more information such as the probable London church used by the WARD and family for several generations - the quaintly names St Benet Sherehog.

The French site was no problem. It is a compendium listing recent patents and discoveries. The one you picked up on was a machine for doubling threads of silk, linen and cotton - part of the spinning process. There is a British patent taken out in 1804 - my guess is for the same machine.
