When my uncle talked about visiting there during the war, he spoke only of Aunt Elsie, so I don't know if John was still living at that time.

They moved from Belfast where he had worked at Harland-Wolff.

Certainly I'll let you know if I find other sources.

knowing the ages is a great help, the on line B.M.D haven't got up to the 194o's yet as far as i know.I haven't looked on them for a long time.I always use the G.R.O.=compleat and original registrations, because i end up going there anyway ;D they go to 1983.It would take a long time trawling through them though to find his death. He could have died anytime between 1940 age 45? & 1970 at 75 or older. So what i will do is go to the wallasey library(nearer) first, because they have a shelf of books,They are an index of births and deaths for people who were born died in birkenhead/wallasey area and registered Birkenhead, and are split up into area's.They give the name and the reference number and year.but i have idea they only go to the late 1800's but i will check to make sure. They take a minute to find and you go back home find it on your computer bmd (not gro)print a form out and order it, easy peasy ;D
They also have all, last time i used them :),of the 1950's directories. So will have a look see in those as well.

Hi Kathleen,

have you checked for their deaths from say 1940 on Ancestry? its slow to do, but you have a quite easy name to search.
If they always lived in Bebington, I assume they will be buried in Bebington Cemetery or St Andrews churchyard, the next one to look at is Landican cemetery.

if you could find a qtr and year, I or someone could look at the cemeteries for you.

Regards

Mel

I was going to put a topic up sometime about burials after the sixties in birkenhead/wallasey.Because i was going through the 60/seventies death articles  and orbits in the newspaper yesterday.Four out of every five held a service at a church they were members of.They were then cremated at landican or buried in Plymyard is it? it said opposite. The odd one was buried Rake lane.Being cremated is one of the reasons burials are never found :(

Celia
P.S i have looked for any deaths from 1938 to october 1943,but the only registrations in Birkenhead sub/dis/wallasey is a Blanch E in 1941  age 75 and Edna age 25 in 1942

Celia,

I thank you for your help and your ongoing efforts.

Mel,

Thanks, also, for your suggestion.  Which Ancestry site is that?

go to

www.ancestry.co.uk

if not a member you will have to join, but do not pay anything.

Then on the main page it gives a link
Go directly to Births, Deaths and marriages.

then in the box thats states
Complete BMD Index ranges & Images 1837-1983

click on death for 1838 to 1983 and fill in the required boxes.

Hope it helps

Aha!

Thanks to Celia and Mel, I found them both:

John Winder, age 73, Wirral, Vol. 10A  Page 793 -- Oct/Nov/Dec 1968

Elsie Kathleen Winder, age 84, Birkenhead, Vol. 37, Page 0756 -- July/Aug/Sep 1976

The search was time consuming, but well worth it.

I really appreciate your help with this. :) :)
