poor house

has anyone got anything on i think it was a poor house or dos house in (king street newton stewart) before or after 1889 as my ggggrandfather joseph brown died there in 1889 and i would like to find out about it or how would i go about finding out about it and the people who where in it at this time

Hi William

Do you know who signed the death certificate as the informant ? Assume would have been one of the staff. If so then can search for that name on the 1881 and 1891 censuses which will list the inmates at that time - assuming it was the poor house.

Also it might be worth contacting the local family history society who will be able to give you info I'm sure!
