Morrows fo Co. Cavan
« on: Wednesday 20 June 07 17:08 BST (UK) »
I am trying to trace my husband's ggg/father Henry Morrow, he was born around 1842 in Co. Cavan and his father was Thomas Morrow.  If anyone can help I would really appreciate it.

Hello Jocette,

What denomination were the Morrow family? Were they members of the Catholic faith, the Established Church (Anglicans or Church of Ireland), Methodists or possibly Presbyterians?

You'll have to rely on Church records as civil registration in Ireland was not introduced until 1864. Non Catholic marriages were registered from 1845 onwards. When registration for BDMS started in 1864 some people didn't bother with the registration for a few years after that date. Keep your fingers crossed that church records still exist.

Hello there,   I too are tracing Morrow's from County Cavan,  a Jane Morrow born about 1852,  her marriage certificate doesn't state parents names,  so a bit of sticky ending.   Perhaps you have a Jane in your research?

Keeweegal.

Are you related to Henry Morrow of the townland Graddum, near Ballyjamesduff? Many from this branch went to Australia.

Or are your part of the Morrow family that went to Porirua, NZ in late 1890s?
I am related to many of the MORROWs around Bjduff, my Morrows are from Clare and Derrylurgan, just outside Bjduff. My relatives went to Winnipeg, Canada in 1901 and Peterborough, Ontario in early 1840s.

Let me know some details---have been researching these lines in Canada and Ireland for over 25 years.

Hi ya Lyz ;)

Great to hear from you,   to be honest I do not know where in Cavan she comes from,  Ballyjamesduff could be correct,  but without knowing her parents or otherwise I am stumped.   She had a sister Mary Ann,  they both came out to New Zealand on a ship called Zealandia.  (That is presuming they are them on the list)

Her Marriage Cert,  just says Co. Cavan.    I have recently ordered a copy of her death certificate,  perhaps that will give me some clues.

In saying that though,  I was in Ireland last November and I made a visit to Ballyjamesduff (because we got lost!!)  and I remember saying to my husband that this feels like home!!  perhaps a gut feeling!!

But any info you may have that could fit in,  would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks again ;D

Regards

Kimberly

If you don't get much information from her death certificate it might be worth getting Mary Ann's (or perhaps a marriage certificate) to see if any details of parents are given.
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!
