Gertrude Francis,born c1884/5 at Ingatestone daughter of William Francis. She had 4 children, Hilda 1915?, Kenneth 1920, Ann 1926, Gordon 1930. Whom did she marry and where? She had a brother Gordon Francis:any news of his descendants also  please.

Choose the full option and then go through each quarter within each year

To start you off I have looked at 1884 and 1885 births.
The only candidate for her in those years is:

Jan/Feb/Mar 1884, Gertrude Emily Francis, Chelmsford area ref 4a 366

That gives a middle name which will make finding her marriage easier.

You knowethe christian names of her children - but it appears you do not know their surnames, and therefore Gertrudes married name.

Therefore I suggest you look through marriages from, say 1902 onwards (when she was 18) and jot down possibles. Hopefully not too many!
Unfortunaley it is not till later that the indexes will give a surname for who she married, so you will have to get the certs. Unless it appears on teh partial freeBMD list, in which case you can narrow it down to two names.

Then you can comfirm if you get teh right marriage by looking up the births for the children, you have the years, so if you find them all with the same surname that links in with a marriage  - then you have found the marriage!

But before doing any of that I would
a) find her in 1891 and 1901, to track any movements away from Ingatestone.
b) follow up yuor sources about the children (some of whom may still be alive) to try and find their surname at birth, and therefore the name of the chap Gertrude married. one of them may have a birth cert, giving Dad's name - or you can send for one if you can just get their surname

as another member says her middle name was Emily. To my surprise I find her children were born in Sleaford, Lincolnshire

To start you off on the marriage search I have done 1902-1904 - no Gertrude Emily Francis yet.

I will do a few more years, as I quite enjoy this sort of detective work - but you'd have much more fun looking for it yourself ss then you'd get the thrill of finding it!

The 1891 gives her middle name as Emily and birth in Ingatestone so lizdb's find is likely to be her.

Have found a birth 1915 Sleaford for a Hilda M Francis both entries for Francis, so she could have been a single mother at this time or else married someone also with the name francis.
